Provide Vital Services to the NHS
100% Volunteer Run Service
East Midlands Free Wheelers (EMFW) are a group of volunteers who provide vital services to the NHS completely free of charge. We deliver human breast milk, blood, medical supplies and equipment anywhere in the country.
Our services are provided 24/7. We provide this service at no cost at all to the NHS with a large emphasis on making a huge difference to public health, to help reduce bed blocking and save the NHS vast sums of money enabling them to provide a better service overall.
Our History
Here are Our Milestones
-
EMFW Setup
July, 2019We initially started to help the NHS by providing free transportation to local GP Surgeries of samples to the Pathology Labs in Nottingham. This service enables the GP Surgeries to offer late afternoon, evening and weekend appointments to their patients, giving more flexibility to people who work full time work shifts etc and also gets the results through more efficiently.
The need for this type of service is essential for opening up more appointments to people who would otherwise struggle to get to their doctors. The NHS do provide a collection service for samples but for most surgeries this is before 2pm, meaning the sample can either not be taken after this time or will be stored until the following days collection, leading to a delay in results -
First Milk Run
November, 2019During September 2019 we had a meeting with The Milk Bank at Chester and soon afterwards put a Service Level Agreement (SLA) in place with them to collect and deliver donated breast milk. The Milk Bank at Chester (MBAC) is an NHS run facility. Our first milk run for them was in November 2019. -
EMFW Gained Charity Status
December, 2019In December 2019, we officially received our charity status from the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
